Alaska is the largest and northernmost U.S. state, located at the northwest corner of North America and known for its vast wilderness, diverse wildlife, and natural beauty. It became the 49th state in 1959 and is officially abbreviated as AK. While its remoteness can make it expensive to live in, Alaska offers benefits like a Permanent Fund Dividend and no state income tax for residents.
